Tour Itinerary
Day 1Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas → Telouet → Ounila Valley → Aït Benhaddou → Ouarzazate
Your journey begins with a private departure from Marrakech, climbing into the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass — panoramic overlooks, terraced hillsides, and Berber villages tucked into the slopes.
Before the desert gateway, you detour into a more secret Morocco: Telouet, home to the atmospheric Kasbah of Telouet, once tied to the powerful Glaoui era. From here, the route threads through the Ounila Valley — a quieter, more intimate stretch of villages and kasbah landscapes that feels worlds away from the main road.
By midday/afternoon, you arrive at Aït Benhaddou (UNESCO) — Morocco’s most iconic ksar. Wander its earthen lanes, climb to the viewpoint, and take in the cinematic stillness of clay walls glowing in desert light. Continue to Ouarzazate, the relaxed “Gateway to the Desert,” where the landscape opens wide and golden.
Overnight: Ouarzazate (Saharaï-selected hotel/riad)
Saharaï moment: Sunset tea on a terrace — the first shift in air and atmosphere.
Day 2Day 2: Ouarzazate → Skoura Oasis & Kasbah Amridil → Rose Valley → Dades (Monkey Fingers Walk)
Today is oasis beauty and valley elegance. You begin in Skoura Oasis, a palm-filled region known for its kasbah heritage. Visit Kasbah Amridil — one of Morocco’s most iconic and best-preserved kasbahs, offering a beautiful window into southern architecture and oasis life.
From Skoura, the route continues through the landscapes of the Rose Valley (seasonal and fragrant in spring, dramatic and scenic year-round), before arriving into the Dades Valley. Here, you’ll take a gentle walk among the famous “Monkey Fingers” formations — sculpted rock shapes that feel almost surreal in the late light.
Overnight: Dades Valley (Saharaï-selected riad/hotel)
Saharaï moment: Golden hour in the valley — cliffs turning warm red as the day softens.
Day 3Day 3: Dades → Todra Gorge → Erfoud → Merzouga → Erg Chebbi Dunes (Desert Camp)
You begin the day at Todra Gorge, where towering canyon walls rise sharply on either side — cool air, dramatic scale, and a beautiful contrast to the open road. Enjoy a gentle walk and photos before continuing toward the desert edge.
From here, the journey continues through Erfoud, known for fossil-rich desert stone (optional short stop at a reputable workshop if you’re curious), and the landscapes begin to shift — flatter horizons, warmer tones, and the feeling that you’re nearing the Sahara.
By afternoon, you arrive in Merzouga, where the dunes rise like waves — Erg Chebbi, golden and vast. At golden hour, your desert transition begins:
- Camel trek at sunset across the dunes, or
- 4×4 transfer for maximum comfort
You arrive at your Saharaï-selected desert camp with lantern light, warm hospitality, and an elevated, calm atmosphere. Dinner under the stars, Berber rhythm, mint tea — and silence that feels rare.
Overnight: Erg Chebbi desert camp (luxury upgrades available)
Saharaï moment: The first time you look up — and your breath catches.
Day 4Day 4: Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Middle Atlas → Fes
Morning in the Sahara is soft and quiet. Sunrise in the dunes is optional, then breakfast before the scenic crossing north. This is a longer travel day, but designed with comfortable breaks, scenic viewpoints, and a well-timed lunch.
You pass through the palm ribbon of the Ziz Valley, then climb into the Middle Atlas, where the air turns crisp and the scenery shifts to cedar forests and highland light. If timing aligns, you may have the chance to spot Barbary macaques, monkeys native to this region, in the cedar forests — a charming, unexpected mountain moment before the city.
Arrive in Fes by late afternoon/evening and settle into your riad/hotel.
Overnight: Fes (Saharaï-selected riad/hotel)
Saharaï moment: Your first evening in Fes and you can feel the vibration of the thousands’ year old city humming behind ancient walls.
Day 5Day 5: Fes Medina Exploration (Full Day) & Optional Artisan Add-Ons
Today is dedicated to the magic of Fes: its medina — intricate, alive, and timeless. With a private local guide, you explore at a pace that feels immersive but never overwhelming, moving through artisan quarters, historic streets, and architectural gems.
You’ll typically include highlights such as the Blue Gate (Bab Boujloud), atmospheric souks, and key landmarks like the Bou Inania Madrasa, along with artisan quarters where craft is still practiced daily. You can also include the iconic viewpoints over the traditional tanneries (if you choose), plus quiet corners and courtyards that make Fes feel like Morocco’s cultural heartbeat.
A calm, Saharaï-style lunch break is built in, with time for tasteful shopping if you wish (quality over chaos). And for travelers who love hands-on culture, we can arrange elegant add-ons such as:
- a ceramics workshop visit (and optional beginner class)
- a zellij (mosaic) introduction with artisans
- a leather workshop visit (crafted goods, process insight, ethical pacing)
- curated artisan visits (we guide you toward quality and authenticity)
Return to your riad/hotel in the late afternoon — or we can arrange dinner reservations to finish the journey beautifully.
End of program: Fes (or optional extra night if extending)
Saharaï moment: Leaving Fes with the feeling that a little piece of the medina has become part of you.
